If you are a new follower here, you probably didn’t know that I have a thriving career in the medical field. I have been a practicing Medical Laboratory Scientist for almost 5 years now, and it has proven to be very rewarding, and very fun! Over these last 5 years, I have gone through different labs, worked with many amazing people, and gotten to juggle life as a full-time mom, blogger, business owner and med tech. If any of you are thinking about entering the medical field as a career, I wanted to share three things that I love about this field, and why it’s an amazing career choice. I am so proud to be able to have the opportunity to help heal other’s and use my science knowledge to figure out what’s going on in people’s body’s!
#1: I get to Wear Scrubs to Work!
Oh scrubs. How I love you scrubs! Not many careers allow you to wear super comfy pajama-like clothing for your shifts, and I feel so lucky that my career does! As much as I love fashion, I love that when I go to work in the lab, I don’t have to worry about what to wear, and how comfortable I will be throughout the day. I just pick a pair of scrubs, throw on some comfy shoes, and I’m out the door! I love that I get to feel comfortable for the 12+ hours I’m working and also feel stylish! Right now, my favorite scrubs are the Urbane scrubs by Landau. They are butter soft, stretchy, and the perfect length in the top and bottom! I seriously could sleep in these, they are so comfy!! Not only do I LOVE my Urbane scrubs, but they are super easy to shop for and have shipped to me (which makes my home life SO much easier; imagine how hard it is to go to a scrub store with a 3 year old and a 1 year old!).
#2: Even though it is Painful to Leave My Family to go to Work, I get to Show my Kids what Hard Work is!
Something I did not anticipate when choosing a career in college was the fact that when I did have kids, I would have to leave them to go to work. I mean, I knew I would be doing that, but I had no idea how incredibly hard it would be! Even though I hate leaving my kids, it is good for my soul to leave, go to the lab, help heal people, and show my kids that both Mom and Dad work hard for them. I also get to talk to my kids about the body, how it works, how amazing it is, and how their bodies are amazing too. I feel so blessed to have the knowledge of our bodies like I do, because I can truly share with my kids how cool it is to have a body and to watch it grow. I know my kids really appreciate the fact that I work hard for them and that I have a great career in the medical field, and when they grow older, they will know what hard work looks like.
#3: Helping to Save Lives is One of the Best Feelings in the World!
The whole reason I wanted to go into the medical field, is because I LOVE helping people. I knew that I would be able to help people’s bodies heal and help them to live healthy lives. These past 5 years I have truly felt like I have made a difference in my community and I have been able to help thousands. I get to work with amazing doctors and nurses to find a treatment appropriate for the patients and I get to hear amazing healing stories. It warms my heart whenever I get to talk to others and hear how they were helped in the hospital. Even though my hours are long and sometimes I’m extremely exhausted, seeing people’s lives changed because of my work is so worth it!
I hope you all enjoyed this look inside of this big part of my life! I love sharing things that I am passionate about and working in medicine is one of them! Tell me in the comments if you work in the medical field! I would love to hear what you do and what you love about your job!
