This is simply something that I feel strongly about and support 100%.
I know that this blog is primarily a fashion and beauty blog…but I think it’s important to also let my lovely readers know my thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and general attitude toward life. That’s why I’ve decided to share this movement with you all. It’s a movement that I fully support and want to spread, because I think it is that important.
Pornography in the past was a hush-hush topic…or not even a topic at all. People didn’t see pornography as a big deal…it definitely wasn’t something that could harm you. It was casually mentioned on TV shows, movies, and in conversation as being a totally normal thing. I mean…it’s just sex right? Sex isn’t a bad thing to our world…so why would watching sex on TV be a bad thing?
Well, in the past decade A LOT of research has been done because many people were showing signs of addiction and sexual dysfunction. There was a rise in sexual fetishes and sexual deviance in our community. Doctors and psychologists were working together to find answers to this baffling phenomenon. After researching many different causes of these symptoms in the public, they saw one thing in common: Pornography.
In college, this intrigued me. I grew up hearing through church leaders of the danger of pornography, but I really wanted to know why it was harmful (can you tell I’m a scientist haha). In my abnormal psychology class, we were asked to write a lengthly research paper on a topic of our choice. Well, after thinking about what I thought would interest me in the field, I tackled a paper on addiction; specifically pornography addiction. What I found astonished me. I found that pornography is just as addictive as hard drugs (cocaine, meth, etc) because it reaches the same place in the brain as the drug addictions. I found that pornography was a stepping stone to more serious things like complete sexual dysfunction, rape, murder, etc. I found that pornography not only affects the addict themselves, but also the spouse, the children and other family. I found that the addiction actually makes it harder to keep a job, keep stable finances, and keep stable relationships. All of these findings showed me what a serious problem this is, and that we as a community need to work hard to stop this New Drug.
Let’s step away from the science side of this addiction for a second.
Not only have I seen the research, but I have seen how the addiction affects people in real life. I have known many people who have or have had a pornography addiction. I’ve seen the pain that it has caused. I’ve seen the anger and hurt that happens. I have seen the change in demeanor. I have seen it lead to other addictions. I have seen it.
There are almost no words to describe what I’ve seen pornography do. I can’t even begin to tell you the pain and hurt it’s caused me watching people I love deal with this addiction. I can’t even begin to tell you the pain and hurt it’s caused me to find out about it. It’s scary. It’s hard.
It needs to stop.
Let’s all educate ourselves about pornography addiction and fight it. This really is the new drug of our generation and we need to put an end to this debilitating disease. Let’s make love between two people real again. Let’s educate the public that you don’t need something like pornography in your life to feel happy. Love makes you happy…not pornography.
That is why I am a proud supporter of Fight the New Drug and all of the good they are doing!
So let’s fight Pornography!
