What do you blog about?
When I first started my website in 2014, I designed it to be all about fashion, shopping, and beauty products. Dressing Dallas was born and I shared my favorite fashion finds with the internet. As I’ve grown in the influencer space, had more children, and grown older, I realized that that wasn’t my only passion. Sure, I love sharing fashion and beauty finds still, but what I’m most passionate about is helping other women grow a life and business they are proud of. Now, as I’ve grown my blog to be Lauren Virginia Co, I focus on Fashion and Beauty tips, Business Growth Tips, Mental Health Awareness, and the challenges I face everyday as a wife, mother, scientist and business owner.
What kind of camera do you use?
I use the Canon 60D as my main camera and I use the f/1.2 50mm (the f/1.8 is a great starter option!), 24mm and my stock lens as my main lenses. I also use the Sony Alpha a5000 for carrying around in my purse! It’s a great point and shoot camera! And of course, I use my iphone for all of those candid shots around town (and of my babies!!)
What social media platforms are you active on?
I am active on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok. If you’d like to get in touch with me or say hi, I’m most active on Instagram! If you’d like to follow me, click on any of the social media buttons on my sidebar!
How Do you edit your photos (computer and phone)?
For all of my blog photos, I primarily edit them in Photoshop and Lightroom. If you are a blogger, I highly recommend subscribing to Adobe CC. It’s fairly inexpensive and totally worth it! I also use Canva for a few collages and graphics that I design. On my phone, I primarily use the apps Facetune, Pic Stitch, Over, and Lightroom to edit my Instagram photos.
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been a “blogger” since 2008! When I was a college freshmen, I started a personal blog to write about all of my adventures and it gradually morphed into a fashion blog. When I got married, I decided to quit my old blog (it was called “A Day in the Life of Lolo” but it doesn’t exist anymore…sorry!) and start a new, married blog for my husband and I. I still post to that blog from time to time, and it’s filled with all of our families adventures! After I had my son Everett, I decided I wanted to pick up blogging seriously again, and Dressing Dallas was born in 2014! After years of writing on Dressing Dallas, I decided to rebrand, and in 2020, Lauren Virginia Co was created!
Are you a full time blogger? How do you earn money blogging?
I am actually not a full-time blogger at the moment, but I do make money blogging! I’m a part of various groups and PR agencies that offer sponsored post options. I am apart of liketoknow.it and Shopstyle that allow me to make a small commission off of items that are purchased by my readers. One thing that I will say is that it takes time to start making money. You need to have a strong readership for companies to want to pay you to review something, or to create content. If you are just starting out, focus on creating amazing content and gaining readers! Don’t focus on the money, or else you’ll burn out quickly.
What do you believe?
I believe in God, love, and hard work. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka I’m a Mormon), and I love it!
What’s your favorite color of clothing to buy? Favorite color of eye shadow?
First off, I love this question! And to be honest, I had to go look in my closet to see haha! After looking at all of my current clothing, I have to say that the color that I buy the most of is actually tied between white and blue. They are beautiful, classic colors that you can mix and match for daaayyyyssss. But I will say that I love buying fun, bright clothing as well! Pink is my friend!
As for eye shadow, I am drawn to metallics! You will always catch me wearing some kind of gold, shimmery color! I also buy a ton of neutral crease colors. Why? I have no idea (I’m a make up addict, and I might need help ha!).
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get all my inspiration from the world around me. I know that’s the biggest cliche in the world, but it’s true. I love walking around downtown Dallas and seeing all the different people and their styles, as well as surfing the internet and Pinterest for ideas for my next creative endeavor. I also love photographing nature and people. And of course, I love to go old school and flip through catalogs, magazines and create inspiration boards.
How do you define your style?
The trends I like to incorporate into my life can fluctuate a lot, but my main style is described with three simple words:
Classic. Sophisticated. Fun.
I love to keep my outfits fairly simple. I don’t add tons of jewelry to my outfits, just a few pieces to add a little elegance. I believe in looking put-together and modest in all that I do (but don’t worry, I definitely am lounging around in pj’s at home). Even though my go-to style might be simple, I love adding a little sparkle! You better believe I have at least 20 items in my closet with sequins and/or glitter incorporated in them! I really like exploring all the different trends, but one thing that I think sets this blog apart from others is that I won’t wear a trend just because everyone else is doing it. It has to flatter my body, and I have to see myself wearing it over and over for me to buy it. If a trend can’t become a classic, it’s not worth my time, and it shouldn’t be worth yours!
My home style is very classic as well. I love neutral colors, and it’s safe to say that the majority of the items I use to decorate with can be considered to be in the “neutral” family. I also love having a neutral base in my home because it allows me to add little pops of fun here and there, without it looking like Pinterest threw-up in my family room. I also believe that your house won’t look like a home until there are multiple walls filled with photographs of the people and things that mean the most too you.
