Where I got My Start
My blogging journey started way back in 2009 with my first lifestyle blog to document my life in college, and then transforming into an early fashion blog in 2010. After taking a break for a few years, this current website was born in 2014 after the birth of my first baby. My original blog, Dressing Dallas, started as a way to express myself as a new mother. I needed something that was mine that I could have fun with while I explored my new journey into motherhood.
Since becoming a mother, I have gone through an identity crisis of sorts. Was I supposed to give up all of my previous passions and give my whole self over to raising children? Or was there a way for me to feel fulfilled while helping mold the future generation. These sort of questions took years of struggling in my own mind on what I was supposed to do with my life, who I was, and what I wanted. I think a lot of women go through this sort of thing as well.
I had a great career in the medical field and I had a thriving blog and social media business, but I still felt like something was missing in my life. I also was struggling with depression and anxiety as I raised my kids, tried to keep up at home, run my business, and make it look like to the world that I was a super mom. It wasn’t until my little brother died from suicide and then my little sister died 5 months later from an asthma attack that I realized that I was focusing on all the wrong things. It’s funny how huge, life-altering events can open your eyes to what you are doing right and wrong.
I realized that I was trying WAY too hard to impress others, and make it look like I was something that I wasn’t. I was focusing on creating the perfect life, instead of just living in it and enjoying it. I wasn’t passionate about what I was doing, and this effected my relationships with my husband, kids, and extended family. I decided to let everything go and just be me. I let it be ok that I was a #hotmessmom and that my home and life were messy, but fun. I let it be ok that I had days where I got dressed in cute, put on makeup and slayed, but then the next day I could barely get out of bed and function. I wanted the world to see that that is ok, and those are the kinds of things we should talk about on social media!
My main content that you’ll find on Lauren Virginia Co is all about plus size fashion, easy beauty tips, DIY projects, and my life as a mom of 3 in Texas. I love to share with other women how they can dress their curves and feel confident in their skin. You’ll find various outfit ideas for curvy girls so you can build a wardrobe you love. I also believe that less is more when it comes to makeup, and more is more when it comes to skincare! I love sharing my favorite finds as well as how I achieve glowing healthy skin that looks natural and fresh with makeup! Now you will usually find me wearing a dress and a dewy face of makeup, but that doesn’t stop me from getting down and dirty with DIY projects around our home. I love to build things from scratch, add some fun pops of color, and spice up items in our home we already have! As you can see, we have a lot of fun around here!
I also am very passionate about social media and helping others learn and grow on various platforms on the internet. My 2 loves are TikTok and Pinterest, and I love sharing tips and tricks on how to grow for other creators. I also have a social media agency, RAE media, which is designed to help brands get authentic content that converts on social media. I love everything about studying social trends, how to grow your internet businesses, and how to convert social media to sales! You’ll find me sharing a lot of free tips and tricks on all of these subjects right here on this blog. You can also find even more info and free tips and tricks on my RAE Media website as well as my storefront!
Come join me on my journey as I talk about being a momtrepeneur who is an active mental illness fighter, and believes that even though your life might look like chaotic, you can be happy and thrive! Hang out as I show you that a little hard work can get you anything you want in life, and that it’s ok if the journey is messy along the way!
